Instruction Manual for Magnetic Powder Clutch and Brake

Published Time:

2013-05-13

Magnetic powder brake It has an exciting coil, a soft magnetic material, and a magnetic circuit composed of coils around the air gap. It is mainly composed of three parts: an active rotor, a passive rotor, and a fixed support. Some soft magnetic magnetic powder is filled between the active rotor and the passive rotor.

  1. When the coil is not energized and the cylinder rotates, the magnetic powder is pressed against the inner wall of the cylinder due to centrifugal force, a gap is generated between the magnetic powder and the rotor, the clutch does not generate idling torque, and therefore almost no heat is generated.

  2. When the coil is energized, the current establishes a magnetic field in the magnetic circuit. The magnetic powder between the active and passive components is connected into a chain shape. At this time, the torque can be transmitted due to the friction between the various components. The larger the excitation current, the greater the magnetic induction intensity in the working gap, the greater the electromagnetic suction force, and the greater the transmitted torque; conversely, the transmitted torque becomes smaller. By adjusting the size of the excitation current, the size of the transmitted torque can be adjusted.

  3. When the excitation current is disconnected, the magnetic powder quickly returns to the unexcited state and is released from the control of the brake. The key to the quality of the magnetic powder brake is the quality of the magnetic powder. The higher the magnetic permeability of the magnetic powder and the less residual magnetism, Magnetic powder brake the better the control characteristics.

  4. Because Magnetic powder brake the active part is rotating at high speed, a large amount of heat will be generated, so the magnetic powder needs good heat resistance and wear resistance.

Precautions:

1. Please use the magnetic powder brake with the correct installation method (using the high-speed rotating side as the input side). If the mechanical structure requires the input and output shafts to be installed in reverse, please use it at 1000R/MIN or less. Reversing the input and output shafts will cause the machine to idle for a long time, stirring the magnetic powder, which will greatly shorten the service life of the magnetic powder brake.

2. Please pay attention to moisture. If the magnetic powder is damp, the performance will become unstable, so be extra careful not to allow oil or water to enter the inside. Especially when installed in a gearbox, oil will penetrate the shaft and enter the inside, so it must be completely sealed with a film.

3. Please pay attention to the surface temperature. The maximum surface temperature caused by continuous operation is below 90 degrees during operation. If this value is exceeded, the durability will be greatly reduced. Please be sure to use the above-mentioned limit temperature as the standard, and keep it within the allowable sliding work rate during use.

The magnetic powder brake is composed of a drive unit (input shaft) and a driven unit (output shaft). The space between the two units is filled with granular magnetic powder (approximately 40 microns in volume). When the magnetic coil is not energized, the torque is not transmitted from the drive shaft to the driven shaft, but if the coil is energized, the magnetic powder is attracted due to the magnetic force, resulting in a hardening phenomenon, and the torque is transmitted during continuous sliding. Principle of magnetic powder brake Similar to a magnetic powder brake, except that the drive unit is replaced with a fixed unit.

Maintenance and inspection of magnetic powder clutch and brake

(1) Damp magnetic powder will affect performance, so please ensure that water and oil do not enter the magnetic powder clutch/brake. Especially for gearboxes, please use an oil seal to completely seal it.

(2) After a certain period of use, the clutch or brake may exhibit reduced torque. This is mainly due to changes in the performance of the magnetic powder under long-term slip conditions. In this case, generally replacing the magnetic powder can restore the performance of the magnetic powder brake. If you have any problems with replacing the magnetic powder, please contact the original factory technical service department in time.

(3) If the following occurs during use: a. Heavy rotation; b. Torque fluctuation per rotation; c. Abnormal noise

Please check the bearings. If they are confirmed to be damaged, please replace the magnetic powder clutch/brake or send it to the factory for repair.

Precautions for vertical shaft use

Electromagnetic Magnetic powder clutch The magnetic powder clutch/brake is designed for horizontal shaft installation. If, in unavoidable circumstances, the standard type is installed for vertical shaft (vertical shaft) use, the performance will naturally differ from the values recorded in the catalog.

If the torque is approximately 50% of the rated torque, the operating speed is 100-750 rpm, and the allowable sliding power is less than 1/2 of the value indicated in the catalog (natural cooling type), it can be used, but

at the start of operation, in order to stabilize the torque, continuous ON/OFF for about 200 times is required, and after the preliminary operation is started, a holding current of more than 20% of the rated current must be continuously supplied to maintain the distribution of the magnetic powder, and the input shaft must be installed on the upper side.
