However, entering the 12th Five-Year Plan, the slowdown in market growth has become an undeniable fact. In the face of various uncertainties in the market, grasping future technology trends and gaining a market advantage are issues that every company is considering. With the rapid development of microelectronics, computers, networks, and communication technologies, and the continuous improvement of comprehensive automation, intelligent instruments embody the intelligent, digital, and networked development requirements of the manufacturing industry and will undoubtedly become an important direction for the future development of the instrumentation industry.
Market Growth Slowdown in the Instrumentation Industry
In recent years, China's instrumentation industry has shown a trend of rapid development. According to data released by the China Instrument and Meter Association, during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, except for a growth rate of only 8.9% in 2009 due to the impact of the global financial crisis, the growth rate in other years was between 20% and 30%. During this period, the global instrumentation market increased by only 3% to 4%, showing how fast China's instrumentation industry developed. The reasons for this are inseparable from China's economic development environment:
First, China's rapid economic development has made it the world's largest emerging market. A large amount of global manufacturing has migrated to China, and many foreign companies have begun to set up factories in China, creating an unprecedented market demand for instrumentation products.
Second, China's new industrialization process and the further deepening of the integration of informatization and industrialization have driven the demand for automation in various industrial fields, thus also bringing prosperity to the instrumentation industry. A series of mandatory measures by the Chinese government, such as the implementation of energy conservation and emission reduction targets and the shutdown of backward production capacity in various industries, have to some extent expanded the market size of the instrumentation industry.
In addition, the implementation of national key projects and the prominence of issues related to national interests and people's livelihood, such as food and drug safety, have provided opportunities for instrumentation, which plays a crucial role in the intelligent manufacturing equipment, automated production processes, and quality supervision and quarantine links.
However, with the continued deterioration of the international economic environment and the slowdown in China's economic growth, overcapacity in industries such as steel, cement, and glass, and various problems exposed in fields such as wind power, solar energy, rail transit, and food, have caused the instrumentation industry to begin to cool down. The latest data shows that from January to June 2012, the total industrial output value of the national instrumentation industry reached 307.509 billion yuan, an increase of 14.86% year-on-year; the sales output value reached 298.036 billion yuan, an increase of 14.94% year-on-year. The slowdown in the growth of China's instrumentation industry has become apparent.
Intelligent Instruments Become a New Highlight in the Market
The rapid development of microcomputer technology and embedded systems has caused a fundamental change in the structure of instrumentation, that is, using microcomputers as the main body to replace the conventional electronic circuits of traditional instruments, becoming a new generation of smart instruments with certain intelligence. The design focus of these instruments has shifted from the design of analog and logic circuits to the design of dedicated microcomputer templates or microcomputer functional components, interface circuits, and input/output channels, as well as the development of application software. Various functions of traditional analog instruments are implemented by unit circuits, while in instruments based on single-chip microcomputers or embedded systems, software composed of programming software, various special and complex functional modules, simplified user configuration programming functions, and control strategy packages for various typical applications completes numerous data processing and control tasks. These instruments have realized some of the functions of the human brain, such as arithmetic operations, logical judgment, command recognition, etc. Some can also perform self-correction, self-diagnosis, and have self-adaptive and self-learning capabilities, so they are called "intelligent instruments."
From the development trend of instrumentation technology, the intelligence of instrumentation is an irreversible trend in the development of instrumentation. The application of digital technology in instruments has not only rapidly improved their performance and accuracy, but also with the advent of fieldbuses, it has provided great impetus and development space for the updating and upgrading of instruments and the realization of further high precision, high performance, especially multi-parameter online real-time measurement and control and automatic measurement and control, high stability, high reliability, high adaptability, multi-functionality, and low consumption, making the information exchange of intelligent instruments faster and enabling functions such as predictive diagnosis and predictive maintenance.
As one of the intelligent instruments, intelligent instruments are no longer simply hardware entities but the product of the combination of hardware and software.
