What should be noted during the operation of magnetic powder clutches and brakes?

1. During normal operation Magnetic powder clutches and brakes , especially newly installed ones, should have a surface temperature not exceeding 80℃.
2. The lifespan of magnetic powder clutches and brakes varies depending on the operating conditions. When the torque drops below 70% of the rated torque, the magnetic powder can be considered aged and should be replaced. However, it is sometimes difficult to determine the torque value at the work site. In this case, the excitation current can be appropriately increased to meet the requirements. If the current reaches the rated value and still cannot meet the requirements, replace the magnetic powder.

3. When magnetic powder clutch , magnetic powder brake, the torque does not increase with the increase of current under the rated excitation current, the possible reasons are: Water-cooled magnetic powder brake, water enters the working area, the magnetic powder cannot be magnetized, and the magnetic powder loses its function.
  
Specific solutions include: 1. Replace the sealing ring and dry the wet powder; 2. Replace with new powder.

 

Performance of magnetic powder clutches and brakes:

 Magnetic powder clutches and brakes are equipped with an excitation coil, soft magnetic material, and a magnetic circuit composed of coils around the air gap. It mainly consists of three parts: an active rotor, a passive rotor, and a fixed support. Some soft magnetic magnetic powder is filled between the active rotor and the passive rotor.

  1. When the coil is not energized and the cylinder rotates, due to the centrifugal force, the magnetic powder is pressed against the inner wall of the cylinder, and a gap is generated between the magnetic powder and the rotor, and the clutch does not generate idling torque, and therefore almost no heat is generated.

  2. When the coil is energized, the current establishes a magnetic field in the magnetic circuit. The magnetic powder between the active and passive components is connected into a chain shape. At this time, the torque can be transmitted due to the friction between the various components. The larger the excitation current, the greater the magnetic induction intensity in the working gap, the greater the electromagnetic suction force, and the greater the transmitted torque; conversely, the transmitted torque becomes smaller. By adjusting the size of the excitation current, the size of the transmitted torque can be adjusted.

  3. When the excitation current is disconnected, the magnetic powder quickly returns to the un-excited state and is released from the control of the brake. The key to the quality of the magnetic powder brake is the quality of the magnetic powder. The higher the permeability of the magnetic powder and the less residual magnetism, the better the control characteristics of the magnetic powder clutch and brake.

  4. Since the active part of the magnetic powder clutch and brake is rotating at high speed, a large amount of heat will be generated, so the magnetic powder needs good heat resistance and wear resistance.

 

Influence of the external environment on the use of magnetic powder clutches and brakes


1. Pay attention to moisture
If the magnetic powder is damp, the performance will become unstable, so be extra careful not to allow oil or water to enter the inside. Especially when the magnetic powder clutch and brake are installed in the gearbox, the oil will penetrate into the inside through the shaft, so it must be completely sealed with a film.
  2. Pay attention to surface temperature
The maximum surface temperature caused by continuous operation is below 90 degrees Celsius for the magnetic powder clutch. If this value is exceeded, the durability will be greatly reduced. Please be sure to use the above limit temperature as the standard. When using the magnetic powder clutch and brake, be sure to keep it within the allowable sliding work rate.
